Nashville native Nate Akey and Florida born Jeff Estes first met in 2012 as members of the community workspace, Fort Houston. Working independently building custom furniture for local vendors and residents it took less than a year for the two to combine their efforts, unifying their skills under the name Five String Furniture. For the next six years they grew the brand designing and fabricating furniture and spacial elements for over 50 different local businesses, eventually taking the company to new heights with national and international brands.

From Marriott and Cracker Barrel to Budweiser and Frothy Monkey the two built the business on the backbone of their principles; effective communication, methodical project planning and expert execution. In the fall of 2018 after much consideration and the desire to learn more, they sold the company to a local partnership and successfully exited their position. Now by the name of Mesa, the company continues too thrive reaching new heights as they grow.

Turning to individual pursuits the two parted ways; Nate moving into commercial project management and Jeff into residential home building. Some six years later the two decided to once again combine their efforts and knowledge in an effort to bring an unparalleled building experience to the greater Nashville region. As Estes puts it; “You’re not just building somebody’s house, you’re building a part of their life and we take that seriously. We let our work speak for our enthusiasm of your vision.” In 2024 the two launched AkeyEstes LLC, a fully licensed and insured home building and remodeling company with a focus on high end spacial re-design and custom construction. From backyard dreamscapes to fully designed homes, Akey and Estes are committed to bringing quality and craftsmanship back to the home building industry.
